The Paris Union Assembly was held today at the 61 Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization. The Assembly was chaired by the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al-Swailem.
During the Assembly, the members reviewed the proposed “guidelines from the Paris Union Assembly regarding the implementation of the Paris Convention regarding the right of priority in emergencies” .This guidelines aims to mitigation measures for the offices of member states with regard to the right of priority during emergencies in accordance with the provisions of the Paris Convention.
At the end of the assembly, a resolution was adopted stipulating that the Paris Union Assembly urges member states to implement the guidelines for implementing the Paris Convention regarding the right of priority in emergency situations.
It is noteworthy that the Paris Union is one of WIPO Unions and it consists 175 country members. The Union also undertakes the development of the WIPO secretariat program and budget – relating to the union – for a period of two years.
The Paris Convention was concluded in 1883 and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia joined it in 2004.
